Neural Injection Therapy

Neural Injection Therapy is a gentle technique that uses very small amounts of procaine, a short-acting anesthetic, that is shown to be anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant as well as softening, to support the body’s regulatory systems and promote more balanced nerve signaling. Small injections are placed just beneath the skin in areas such as scars, areas of muscle tension, or along nerve pathways, with the intention of helping the body release patterns of irritation and restore more coordinated communication between tissues. This approach may support improved comfort, resilience, and overall healing, and is incorporated into a personalized treatment plan based on your individual health picture. I am utilizing Classical Chinese Medicine principles during the session for a more advanced healing session.
Neural Injection Therapy (Procaine)
Neural Injection Therapy (sometimes called neural therapy) is a gentle, regulation-focused
technique that uses very small amounts of procaine, a short-acting local anesthetic, to support
balanced nerve signaling and improved communication between tissues. In addition to its
effects on nerve membrane stabilization, procaine has been described in the literature as having
anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti-sclerotic properties, which may support the softening
of dense or restricted tissue and improve local circulation.
In this approach, procaine is administered in targeted areas such as scars, regions of muscle
tension, and along nerve and segmental pathways. These areas may act as ongoing sources of
irritation within the nervous system, contributing to persistent pain or dysregulation. The goal of
treatment is not simply numbing, but helping the body reset patterns of irritation and restore
more coordinated signaling between tissues.
A Chinese Medicine–Focused Approach
This treatment is offered through a Chinese medicine and channel-based lens, where symptoms
are understood in terms of flow, communication, and regulation within the body.
Procaine is applied in relation to:
-
Acupuncture channels and meridians
-
Areas of pain, stagnation, or tension
-
Nerve pathways and segmental distributions
-
Scar tissue or areas of structural disruption
From this perspective, areas of injury or chronic tension may represent Qi and Blood stagnation
or disruption in channel communication. Neural Injection Therapy can function as a modern tool
to help open blocked pathways, soften tissue, and restore flow, supporting the body’s ability to
regulate and heal more effectively.
What the Research Says
Research on neural injection therapy is evolving and varies depending on condition and
technique.
-
Studies and reviews of low-dose local anesthetic therapy describe effects on nerve signaling,
-
inflammation, and autonomic regulation
-
Clinical research has explored its use in chronic pain, tendon injuries, and complex pain
-
patterns, with some studies showing improvements in pain and function
-
Broader reviews note that evidence is still mixed, and more standardized research is needed
This therapy is best understood as supporting regulation and system-level healing, rather than
acting as a single, condition-specific treatment.
What Symptoms Might Be a Fit
Neural Injection Therapy may be considered for patterns such as:
-
Persistent or unresolved pain
-
Scar-related symptoms or post-surgical tension
-
Chronic muscle tightness or trigger points
-
Nervous system hypersensitivity or reactivity
-
Symptoms that feel “stuck,” recurrent, or disproportionate
What a Visit Is Like
Visits are Chinese medicine–focused and individualized.
-
Assessment: includes evaluation of channels, areas of stagnation, nerve patterns, scars, and overall regulation
-
Treatment: small, targeted applications of procaine along channels, areas of pain, nerve pathways, and affected tissues
-
Response: some patients notice immediate shifts in tension or pain, while others experience gradual improvement over a series of treatments
A Whole-Body Approach
Neural Injection Therapy is most effective when integrated into a broader plan that may include:
-
Botanical and traditional medicines
-
Acupuncture and channel-based therapies
-
Lymphatic and drainage support
-
Nervous system regulation and restorative care
Our goal is to support true healing at the level of the system—restoring flow, softening tissue,
and improving the body’s capacity to regulate and repair.
